The number of suspicious transactions has increased by 49%, the highest number of commercial banks

Kathmandu. Although the amount of suspicious transactions in Nepal has decreased, the number has increased. This has been seen from the report prepared by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU Nepal) of Nepal Rastra Bank led by Basudev Bhattarai.

According to the report, the number of suspicious transactions decreased by 17 percent in 2024 compared to the previous year 2023, but the number increased by 49 percent. According to the report, 9,304 suspicious transactions were reported from various indicators in the year 2024. In the previous year 2023, the number was 6,255.

Similarly, suspicious transaction information worth Rs 40.06 billion was received from various indicators in 2023, which has come down to Rs 34.97 billion in 2024.

According to the FIU report, the highest number of suspicious transactions worth Rs 32.12 billion have been received from commercial banks. In the previous year, the details of such amount received from commercial banks were Rs 38.72 billion. Compared to the previous year, the amount of suspicious transactions has decreased.

Similarly, according to the report, in the year 2024, the second highest suspicious transaction amount was received from the payment service provider. These agencies have sent details of suspicious transactions worth Rs 719.1 million. Which was limited to Rs 11.53 lakh last year.

The third highest number of stock brokers have received details of suspicious transaction amounts. According to the FIU, the stock broker sent details of suspicious transaction amount of Rs 429.6 million in the previous year, which increased to Rs 640.8 million in the year 2024.

According to the report, the most suspicious number of transactions has been seen in commercial banks. Commercial banks have sent details of 1,713 suspicious transactions to the FIU in 2024. Last year, the number was 5,282.

Development banks are in the second place. In 2023, 330 suspicious transactions were reported from The Development Bank, which increased to 612 in 2024.

The third is finance companies. According to the report, 99 suspicious transactions were reported from finance companies last year, which increased to 303 in 2024.
