Kathmandu. The government has set a target to become self-reliant in rice within the next two years.
Presenting the budget for the upcoming fiscal year in the joint sitting of the Parliament today, Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel announced the government’s target. “Chaite paddy cultivation promotion programme will be launched in 22 districts of Tarai and Inner Madhes to become self-reliant in rice within two years,” he said.
The government expects to produce an additional 1.2 million metric tonnes of paddy. “Rs 330 million has been allocated for the construction of irrigation infrastructure for rice cultivation,” he said.
