RASTRA Bank forms ‘Banking Sector Reform Suggestion Task Force’, gives suggestions on these six issues

Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has formed a ‘Banking Sector Reform Suggestion Task Force’ to give suggestions for strengthening the overall reforms in the banking sector.

Newly appointed Central Bank Governor Bishwanath Poudel has formed a three-member taskforce under the coordination of Dr Rewat Bahadur Karki. Bhuwan Kumar Dahal and Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank’s Banking and Financial Institution Regulation Department are members of the taskforce.

The task force has been given a month’s time to submit its recommendations.

The task force should make suggestions on these issues

  • Banking policy regulation regarding liberal but prudential, risk-based effective supervision and development of customer-friendly banking services.
  • Regarding the role that the banking sector should play in making economic activity fully operational.
  • regarding steps to be taken to make credit flow effective in rural areas.
  • Regarding merger and acquisition of banks and financial institutions and suggestions for identification and solution of the problems after the work.
  • regarding the role that the banking sector should play in removing Nepal from the grey list.
  • regarding the coordinating role of the central bank in capital market development.
