Kathmandu. Road and transport infrastructure expert Ashish Gajurel has said that the problem of traffic congestion on the ring road will not be solved with the operation of the Guarco overpass road.
Disclosing nine-point facts about the transport system in The Kathmandu Valley linked to the construction of this infrastructure after vehicles started moving through the overpass built at Gwarko Chowk from Friday, Expert Gajurel said that this is only a temporary solution.
He expressed the view that with the operation of the overpass, the jam of Gwarko Chowk could be shifted to Balkumari or Saat Dobato. He has also suggested the stakeholders to consider resolving the problem of traffic jams.
He urged the government not to immediately plan to construct more flyovers or ovarpasses in The Kathmandu Valley, considering it as an infallible weapon to solve the problem of traffic jams. He said that the next plan should be made only after analyzing the experience of Guarco.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, while addressing the inaugural program on Friday, had said that such infrastructures would be added further.
According to him, although there TAG_OPEN_div_33 is a general understanding that the problem of traffic jams can be solved by building wide roads, tunnels, flyovers or additional road lanes, in fact, the experience of many other countries is not the only way to solve such structures. Increasing the capacity of the road is only a short-term solution.
