Kathmandu. Non-banking assets worth Rs 43.5 billion have accumulated in commercial banks.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has released the current fiscal year 2082. According to the data of the first quarter of 2018-83, 19 commercial banks have accumulated non-banking assets worth Rs 43.24 billion. In the same period of the previous FY, the bank had non-banking assets worth Rs 31.73 billion. Non-banking assets (NPAs) were added by 36.27 percent in the review period compared to the previous year. Among the commercial banks, Standard Chartered Bank does not have non-banking assets.
As of mid-September of the current fiscal year, the non-banking assets of the entire financial institutions have reached Rs 51.12 billion. Non-banking assets are increasing in banks due to ineffective loan recovery.
Compared to the previous year, the non-banking assets of three commercial banks decreased while 16 increased in the review period. Among the commercial banks, the non-banking assets of Prime Bank and Nepal SBI Bank increased by more than 15 percent. Kumari Bank, Machhapuchchhre Bank Ltd and Rastriya Banijya Bank Ltd have reduced their non-banking assets.
Global IME Bank has the highest number of non-banking assets as of mid-September of the current fiscal year. The bank has accumulated non-banking assets worth Rs 6.05 billion. In the same period of the previous year, the bank had non-banking assets worth Rs 5.12 billion. Such assets have increased by 18.08 percent compared to the previous year.
Himalayan Bank is the second largest non-banking bank and NIC Asia Bank is the third largest non-banking bank. As of the review period, Himalayan Bank had non-banking assets worth Rs 5.93 billion and NIC Asia Bank had non-banking assets worth Rs 4.46 billion. Compared to the previous year, such assets have increased by 80.28 percent and 5.82 percent respectively.
Rastriya Banijya Bank has the lowest non-banking assets. As of the review period, the bank has non-banking assets worth Rs. 25.67 crores.
