Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal is to export additional 20 MW of electricity to Bangladesh via India.
The Nepal-Bangladesh Energy Secretary-level meeting held in Dhaka on Thursday agreed to export additional 20 MW of electricity. The agreement will come into effect along with the purchase and sale agreement after the governments of both countries make policy decisions. The agreement will pave the way for Nepal to export 60 MW of electricity to Bangladesh.
The meeting also decided to form an expert committee to evaluate and finalize the form of joint venture for forwarding investment process in Sunkoshi-3 hydropower project.
The meeting also decided to carry out feasibility study of the exchange of electricity through the trilateral transmission line between Nepal and India, and especially to supply power from Nepal to Barapagariya, Panchagadhaar, Thakurgunj, Bheramara and Kosmallala substations of Bangladesh via India.
Both sides have agreed to sign after completing their internal process on renewable energy and energy efficiency and provide technical assistance in the field of energy conservation, charging, rooftop solar among others, and conduct training in Kathmandu and Bangladesh for capacity building.
Apart from this, the meeting also decided to take joint initiatives for India’s consensus on trilateral energy cooperation, according to the Ministry of Energy.
