Kathmandu. A major explosion took place on Wednesday night at Jagdamba Steel Industry, a steel industry run by Shankar Group.
According to local eyewitnesses, the explosion took place in the Kawadi iron melting furnace. Kavadi collected from various sources was being melted in the heat of the fire by burning furnace oil.
Indian workers have been employed because of the high temperature in this furnace. At least 15 workers are regularly deployed in the kiln.
Although the workers were injured in the blast, the exact number is not yet known.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ved Prakash Joshi, in-charge of the Area Police Office, Simara, said that an Indian worker was injured as claimed by the industry administration.
As soon as the incident was reported, a police team reached the spot and the details of the damage caused by the blast were being collected, he said.
The explosion, which occurred at around 9:15 p.m., was heard far away.
