Major changes to US green card rules, now foreign workers should pay attention to these things

Kathmandu. A new green card rule has been introduced in the UNITED States. Under this, green card applicants may now have to undergo a medical check-up again.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIC) has changed the validity rules of Form I-693. This is an important document. Through which the applicant tells about his health. Workers working in the United States are given a green card to stay in the country permanently.

According to the USCIS, Form I-693, signed by the civil surgeon on or after November 1, 2023, is valid only as long as the application filed is pending or under review process. If the application is withdrawn or rejected, Form I-693 will be invalid and cannot be used again. This rule has come into force and affects all applications pending or submitted on or after June 11, 2025.

In what cases will a new form be required?

The USCIC said that if a foreign national submits form I-693 along with Form I-485 (a document used to apply for permanent resident status). However, it is later withdrawn or rejected. In such a situation, they will have to get a new form I-693 while reapplying. Form I-485 allows foreign workers to obtain a green card from within the United States without returning to their home country.

What was the Old Testament?

The USCIS also introduced a policy related to it on April 4, 2024. which has been changed. Under the old policy, Form I-693 was valid indefinitely. Simply put, once a medical certificate has been made, it can always be used. Some people said that the Old Testament was a threat to humans. The agency said that due to the new rules, foreigners can get timely and appropriate medical examination and treatment.
