Kathmandu. Britain’s government led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made major changes to the immigration system. These changes are aimed at reducing immigration, increasing skilled workers, and reducing dependence on foreign workers by tightening worker visas.
The first set of reforms under the new immigration white paper has been introduced in the lower house of the British Parliament. Prime Minister Starmer called it a complete reset of Britain’s immigration strategy. These new rules of the immigration system will come into effect from July 22 this year.
The new rules on recommendations in the white paper will be implemented by the end of this year. Under this, more than 100 occupations will be removed from qualification under the skilled worker visa route under new rules in the UK’s immigration system. Limits on skill levels and salary requirements will be increased and visa routes for foreign social care workers will be closed.
Apart from this, english language requirement will also be tightened for visa applicants.
British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said the government’s efforts in the new rules were to increase opportunities for locals. The first of the four most important points of change is the removal of 111 professions from the list of skilled worker visas, the second is to end foreign recruitment for care workers, the third is to limit work to low degree levels with strict conditions, and the fourth is to order a review of the role, salaries and facilities of the Immigration Advisory Committee.
The UK government says the changes are aimed at increasing control over the immigration system and prioritizing domestic workforce development.
According to Kapoor, the reason for making major changes is the policies of the previous government. Britain’s previous government had quadrupled immigration. As a result, the system has gone off track. In such a situation, Starmer’s government is changing it so that control over this system can be restored.
