Kathmandu. Another fact of irregularities in the corporate governance of Asian Life Insurance has come to light.
The company has obstructed the career development of the employees by suspending their tenure for at least 4 to 8 years in the same post while promoting them through performance evaluation. It is not a temporary position for everyone working in the company, from assistant to deputy chief executive officer, but it is like a permanent and top-level position.
In the discussion organized by the provincial offices of Nepal Insurance Authority, the employees of this company have been complaining that the contract has been renewed in service for more than 2 years. What is surprising is that not only one but most of the state employees are suffering from this problem.
“The intention of keeping the employees in a working or contractual position for a long time against the law seems to be to ruin the career development of the employees,” said an official at the provincial office of the NRA. ’
Most of the posts of the employees have been found hanging in front of the letters received from the regulation of the Insurance Authority, Agent License, Arbitration Department, Law Branch, Investment Branch, etc. According to the employees who have taken responsibility in the provincial offices of the NRA, the details with the names of most of the employees received in the provincial offices have also been found to be working.
Generally, when an employee has to be given a temporary responsibility for a higher level or to test whether he is capable of taking up the responsibility of the higher level, it is a practice to fix the tenure for a maximum of 6 months. The employer organization should inform the employees about the withdrawal of the responsibility before the completion of the period of 6 months, otherwise they will be automatically promoted to the higher level.
Deepak Kumar Shrestha, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, is the coordinator of the vacancy committee. Human resource experts say that staying in the same post for 8 years is a direct game with the career development of the employees.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Dinesh Lal Shrestha said that the management will take appropriate decision immediately regarding the provision of the current headquarters and will not keep the caretaker for a long time in the coming days.
