Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications (NICT) has claimed that the country has achieved an internet speed of 1.02 petabytes per second (Pbps). It has a speed of 102 crore Mbps.
This internet speed is so high that all netflix movies can be downloaded in 1 second. At present, Netflix’s full library is 45,000 GB.
Japan’s internet speed has left many countries behind. According to NICT, the aim is to create the existing infrastructure of high speed internet. In which Japan has achieved success.
NICT had partnered with Sumitomo Electric and European Researcher on the project. Sumitomo developed the fiber optic cable while NICT developed the transmission system.
In Japan, a specially designed optical fiber cable has been used to achieve this high speed internet. The new cable uses 19 courses. Each has a thickness of 0.125 mm. Which is similar to the fiber cable used at present.
During this high-speed test, the data signal was sent from a 19 loop cable. Each loop was 86.1 kilometers long. The internet was repeated 21 times and covered a total distance of 1,808 kilometers.
