Insurance fraud cases rise in UK Fake claim of Rs 2.16 trillion

Kathmandu. Insurance fraud cases have been on the rise in the UK in recent years.

According to figures from the Association of British Insurers (ABI), non-life insurance claims totalled 1.16 billion pounds (about Rs 216.92 billion) in 2024. This is 2 percent more than the previous year 2023. Last year, it was worth £1.14 billion.

According to the association, the number of fraud-related insurance claims has also increased by 12 percent. In 2023, there were 81,100 such claims, which increased to 98,400 in 2024.

In the UK, there are a large number of fake claims related to motor insurance. In 2024, there were 51,700 fraudulent claims related to motor insurance worth £576 million. This number and amount are 53 percent and 5 percent more respectively than the previous year 2023.

In the UK, there were 18,700 fraudulent property insurance claims in 2024. These claims are worth £189 million. This is an increase of 11 percent compared to the previous year.

In the UK, 684,800 fraudulent claims were rejected by insurance companies in 2024, according to the association.
