Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced on his social media that both countries have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire. He congratulated both the countries for their understanding and wisdom.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he was pleased to announce that the two countries had agreed to an immediate cease-fire, adding that the two countries had agreed to hold talks in a neutral location.

Vice President J.D. Vance, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other senior officials were present in the meeting.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 14. At least 26 people, including a Nepali, were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam.

India had carried out air strikes on different places in Pakistan where terrorists may be present, alleging that Pakistan was harbouring terrorists. In retaliation, Pakistan also attacked Indian-controlled Kashmir by land and air.
