Karki died in a road accident on June 9, 2018. The car he was travelling in fell off the road and onto a cliff. The driver of the car, Karki, was killed in the accident.

Karki’s insurance was done with Oriental Insurance. When Karki’s wife claimed the insurance, the company refused to compensate her for rash driving. The case then went to the district court. The district court has also ordered the company to pay Rs 90 lakh compensation to Karki’s dependent family.

The company had appealed to the Uttarakhand High Court challenging the district court’s order. The High Court has dismissed the appeal of the company and ordered the government to compensate Karki’s dependents.
