Kathmandu. The Government of India has formed a high-level committee to investigate the crash of Air India flight AI 171. The high-level committee has been asked to submit its report within three months.
This high-level team will be headed by the Union Home Secretary. It will include senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Indian Air Force, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Intelligence Bureau and other departments.
According to The Asian Insurance Post, in addition to finding out the root cause of the accident, the committee will also review how rescue operations were conducted during the emergency and how various agencies coordinated.
At least 241 people were killed when a Boeing flight from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick airport crashed shortly after take-off on Thursday. One person was rescued alive. This is the first time a Boeing Dream Liner plane has crashed, killing passengers and crew.
The Civil Aviation Ministry said the committee will study the reasons behind the accident and look into what went wrong. It will also review current safety regulations and suggest new ways to prevent such accidents in the future.
