Kathmandu. The government has decided to appoint Chudamani Chapagain to the vacant CEO post of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE).
The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday evening decided to appoint Chapagain as the CEO of NEPSE. The CEO post was vacant in NEPSE after Krishna Bahadur Karki’s term ended on Magh 25. With Chapagain’s appointment, NEPSE has got a new CEO.
The recommendation committee formed for the appointment of NEPSE CEO had published a notice on Falgun 12 and opened applications for the position of CEO of NEPSE until Falgun 18. Then, citing a public holiday of 3 days within the specified period, the committee extended the deadline by 7 days and opened the application till Falgun 25.
The recommendation committee had shortlisted 5 names out of the 10 applicants for the position of CEO of NEPSE. Narad Kumar Luintel, Purna Prasad Acharya, Badri Prasad Pyakurel and Hemant Basyal, along with Chapagain, were shortlisted. Chapagain has succeeded in becoming CEO, beating the remaining 4 candidates.
The cabinet meeting held last week appointed Luintel as the CEO of NEPSE. However, the point of appointing a CEO in NEPSE was later removed from the decisions of the cabinet meeting. The cabinet meeting held yesterday said that the government could be criticized if Luintel was appointed and appointed Chapagain, leaving Luintel aside. Luintel is a tourism entrepreneur.
Chapagain, from Jhapa, has experience working in the banking and insurance sectors. He had worked at Sanima Bank. He was also the Deputy General Manager of the former Sanima Life Insurance.
The newly appointed CEO Chapagain received his appointment letter from Revenue Secretary Dinesh Kumar Ghimire today.
