Government plans to make the Health Insurance Fund sustainable, investment policy will also be adopted

Kathmandu. The government has planned to make the Health Insurance Fund sustainable.

The Ministry of Health and Population is going to adopt measures to make the Health Insurance Fund sustainable in the implementation action plan of the Health Insurance Reform Suggestion Task Force Report, 2081. For this, preparations have been made to impose additional taxes on the production and consumption of items that directly affect public health, including alcohol, tobacco products, sugar products, environmental pollution, junk food, plastic products, chemical products, and arrange for the collected amount to be deposited in the Health Insurance Fund.

The responsible body for this plan will be the Ministry of Health, while the supporting body will be the Ministry of Finance. This aims to ensure sustainable financial management of the Health Insurance Fund.

Similarly, the Ministry of Health has stated that a policy of short-term and long-term investment will be adopted for the accumulated amount of the Health Insurance Fund. The responsible body for this work is the Health Insurance Board and the supporting bodies are the Ministries of Health and Finance. This work will ensure the sustainable mobilization of the Health Insurance Fund, as mentioned in the action plan.
