Kathmandu. IndiGo flight 6E-1703 from Kolkata, India with around 180 passengers on board, landed in Guangzhou of China on Monday. With this, direct flights between India and China have resumed after almost 5 years.
Direct flights between the two countries were suspended in early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The same year, after violent clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley, flights were not resumed.
However, relations between the two countries are gradually improving. Last year, the two sides signed a historic agreement on border patrol.
In August this year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited China after a gap of 7 years and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also visited India in the same month.
The Indian government said the resumption of flights would enhance people-to-people contacts and help “gradually normalise bilateral relations”.
