Success can be achieved in any difficult task if people have an unwavering faith in facing challenges. Dharmadev Das is the person who has achieved success by taking such challenges as an opportunity.
At present, Dharmadev is the head of Mirchauya branch of Citizen Life. He has been managing the team of his branch, supervising and training all the departments, training agents, management, training of agents, etc. Dharmadev is not only in charge of his branch but also in sharing insurance education.
Born in 2048 BS at Laxmipur Patari Rural Municipality-6, Sitapur of Siraha, Dharmadev spent his childhood in a normal way. Dharmdev lost his mother when he was 4 years old. It was very difficult for him to spend a childhood without a mother. He spent his childhood growing up without a mother and facing the lack of a mother. Dharmadev used to go to study in the morning and evening by doing housework. He learned to work hard and struggle from an early age. “I lost my mother when I was a child,” he said, adding, “I got the opportunity to observe my mother’s grief closely from an early age.” Having understood the same sorrow and struggle in childhood, no sorrow or challenge seems to be great now. ’
Dharmadev has completed his graduation. Today, Dharmadev is successful in the insurance sector due to his hard work. Considering hard work and perseverance as an important part of his life, he continued to move forward. His family condition was normal. However, despite these challenges, he managed to continue his studies and complete his graduation.
Dharmadev entered the insurance sector in 2073 BS. Dharmadev, who started his career as an agent from the then Surya Life in 2073 BS, is taking over as the branch chief today. This is the result of his perseverance. Within six months of starting work in the then Surya Life, Dharmadev got the opportunity to become the branch head of the then Union Life. After 11 months of working in the then Union Life, i.e. from August 2075, he got the responsibility of working as the branch head of Citizen Life.

“It was my destiny to get the opportunity to work in Citizen Life, a company that has emerged in the insurance sector with new zeal, new team, new vision and mission,” said Dharmadev, adding, “I liked Citizen Life not only when we work, but also the promoter team of the company, the additional services given to the insured while selling insurance, the company’s insurance plan, management team, bonus rate, etc. After that, I gave an interview and passed and got selected for the post of branch head. And I started working. There were a lot of challenges in the initial stages. There were various challenges including the company that had just come to the market, the responsibility of the branch chief, the office management new plan, the formation of new employees, new agents. But I struggled to overcome that challenge. ’
Prior to joining the insurance sector, Dharmadev made a living by doing small businesses by farming. After that, Dharmadev worked as a manager in the cooperative society.
Dharmadev, who was very interested in the IT sector since childhood, was brought into the insurance sector by time. Although Dharmadev, who had the dream of making a career in IT, could not make a future in the IT field, he completed a computer course related to IT.
Asked what attracted him to the insurance sector, Dharmadev said, “You can earn money regardless of the sector you work in. You get paid for your work. But the insurance sector is such an area that we are not the only ones who benefit from working on it. In case of any disaster in the family of those who we have insured, the company will provide relief. Yes, it is a social task to raise awareness about the risks in someone’s life. There are 700 agents in my branch. 400 active agents have got employment. They have become financially strong. They are working day and night for the benefit of the society to bring others under the ambit of insurance. It’s social work. I was attracted to being a profession with a sense of service to others. ’
“Initially, when I was coming into the insurance sector, not even 10 per cent of the people had access to insurance. At that time, networking companies made their mark in society. Later, these companies ran away with people’s money. After that, the common people thought that insurance would be the same,” he said, adding, “They started comparing insurance with networking companies.” It was difficult to pay insurance. Later, people realized that insurance is different. Now it seems that there are no people who do not understand insurance. They understand insurance. However, it is still difficult to get insurance. ’
Dharmadev said that insurance understanding has widened due to insurance awareness in recent times. “Every company has insurance awareness. The Insurance Authority itself goes to various local levels and creates insurance awareness. This is a good move for the insurance sector. Citizen Life also organizes many awareness programs,” he said, adding, “For example, it has been giving awareness to the students through various programs including insurance, guru samman program.” He goes to every school and college and pays the insurance. The purpose of which is to understand the whole family after a student understands insurance. ’
Dharmadev says that there are many challenges to work in the insurance sector. “Along with challenges, there are opportunities. Now my branch is in the top 10 branch of Citizen Life. Our team is working day and night,” he said, adding, “We have achieved the results as per the work.” We are very happy about it. ’

Dharmadev believes that if he can pay insurance to the general public, then everyone will get insurance. “Agents are representatives of the company,” he said, adding, “They present themselves to the general public with insurance education and insurance awareness.” That’s how the common man understands. If you have a good education, you understand insurance well. Since the agent is the main character of the company, the agent should be first educated and sent to the market only by giving good knowledge. ’
According to Dharmadev, whatever kind of agents enter the insurance sector, if the ambani creates an opportunity to sustain them long-term by giving them knowledge about insurance, paying insurance, then any agent will be long-term. He believes that if the agent insurance market is long-term, then the insurance market will also be good. He stressed the need for the company to make the insurance market long-term by making the agent aware that everyone earns income by enabling the agent to survive in the insurance market, increase the team. Dharmadev suggested the agent to work within the rules and regulations. He believes that the policy related to agents in the Insurance Act will also strengthen the insurance market now.
Dharmadev also said that the old employees should be encouraged rather than the trend of bringing new employees in the insurance sector. “Since the insurance sector is a marketing sector for doing financial transactions, it is important to have honesty, dedication and good reputation,” he said.
According to Dharmadev, insurance is necessary for people with all levels of lifestyle. “However, insurance is most important for people with a normal lifestyle. Because a person who is earning his livelihood by doing normal work will have no support if something happens tomorrow,” he said, “So if people with normal income save a small amount of income and do it on time, then tomorrow there will be an emergency.” Yes, everyone should be insured even after thinking about this. ’
Dharmadev focuses on how to make his branch better by bringing everyone under the ambit of insurance. He said that the branch will be taken forward without any unhealthy competition with any branch. He also monitors internal issues such as fulfilling the given goal, training the agent on time. This Mirchaiya branch office is also successful in extracting Nepal Top Leaders from Citizen Life.
“Of course, everyone likes the company they work in,” said Dharmadev, adding, “Citizen Life has customers and timely products. Therefore, it is better in terms of service than other companies. Now Citizen Life is also ahead in digitization. After the insurance, every insured gets a call from the company. Information technology has made it easier for customers or insurers. ’
Dharmadev also pledged that Citizen Life would always strive for the welfare of the insured.
