Cholera spreads to 3 wards of Birgunj, more than 40 confirmed

Kathmandu. Cholera has spread in three wards of Birgunj Metropolitan City in Parsa. So far, cholera has been confirmed in more than 40 places.

Narayani Hospital and District Public Health Office in coordination with The Metropolitan City have been working in ward no. 1after the residents of Murli Tole were infected with diarrhoea on Friday night. In wards 11, 13 and 16, rapid control works are being carried out to control the infection.

So far cholera ward no. More than 40 people aged 11, 13 and 16 have tested positive for cholera, according to the Public Health Office. They are undergoing treatment at Tarai Hospital.

So far, 150 locals have fallen ill due to diarrhoea. They are being treated at the hospital, the office said.

The METROPOLIS has directed to mobilize all human resources, resources and resources to prevent the spread of infection and to keep the residents of the infected ward safe. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has summoned health workers from all the 32 wards and mobilised them on priority basis in the areas where the infection has spread. Health workers, medicines, ambulances and other vehicles have also been kept on standby for emergency management.

According to the office, ward no. 1 to 16 of Birgunj is considered to be the most vulnerable area. The METROPOLIS has also taken special initiatives to ease infection control by setting up help desks and information centers.

All educational institutions in Birgunj have been closed for two days today and tomorrow due to the outbreak of cholera. Water samples from 11 places where cholera infection has been detected have been sent to teku-based Health Science Laboratory for testing. The report of the sample test will be made public today.
