According to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA), the amount of insurance claims due to car theft was 137.3 million US dollars in 2015. This amount has increased to 269.5 million US dollars in 2024. Compared to 2015, the amount of insurance claims due to car theft has almost doubled, or 96 percent, in 2024.
Insurance claims due to car theft have increased by 27 percent in the last 9 years. In 2015, there were 22,000 such insurance claims, which increased to 28,000 in 2024.
Car thefts have increased dramatically in Queensland and metro Victoria in Australia. While car thefts have increased by 62 percent in Queensland, they have increased by 34 percent in metro Victoria.
