Kathmandu. Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD has overtaken Elon Musk’s Tesla to become the world’s best-selling car. BYD has overtaken Tesla in terms of car sales and revenue in 2024.
Shanghai-based BYD has generated $107 billion in revenue from car sales in 2024, up 29 percent from 2023. The company’s revenue growth is mainly due to the surge in hybrid vehicle sales.
Tesla has generated $97.7 billion in revenue from car sales in 2024. Which is $9.3 billion less than BYD’s revenue.
BYD recently launched low-cost cars to compete with Tesla’s Model 3, which is now the best-selling EV in the Chinese market.
Last year, BYD’s car sales were the same as Tesla’s at 1.76 million units. However, when BYD launched a hybrid car in the Chinese market, global car sales reached a record high of 4.3 million.
Recently, Tesla’s global car sales have declined. After Elon Musk shook hands with US President Donald Trump, Tesla’s global car sales have now reached 1.76 million units. Tesla cars are being attacked in various locations across the US. –AJC
