Kathmandu. Australians claim hospital insurance twice a year on average.
Australians with private hospital insurance are actively using their coverage, according to data from Money.com. On average, 51 per cent of the insured are making two claims a year.
Similarly, in private hospital insurance, 10 percent and 7 percent of those who submit at least three to five claims in a year submit more than six claims.
According to the data, about 31 percent of the insured have not yet submitted a claim to the private hospital insurance.
According to money.com data, the highest number of claims in private hospital insurance are general surgeries and overnight hospital stays.
Similarly, 21 percent of respondents surveyed by Money.com described hospital insurance as the most appropriate insurance. However, 19 per cent of those surveyed view hospital insurance as a cost savings.
The report, released after the survey, recommended that older Australians need hospital insurance coverage because they need continued health. While hospital insurance will provide appropriate coverage to the younger generation for tax incentives or reducing mental stress, the report said.
More than 1,000 Australians participated in the survey conducted in March 2025.
