Kathmandu. As per the directives of Nepal Rastra Bank( NRB), it has been made mandatory for customers to submit national identity card while opening accounts in banks and financial institutions from January 1, 2018.
Banks and financial institutions should verify the details of national identity card or national identity card number while opening the account of their customers. It is mandatory to open an account only on the basis of national identity card or national identity card number.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has issued a notification for financial awareness today. In the case of Nepali citizens living abroad, if they have to open an account in a licensed organization online while living abroad, they can also open an account with necessary documents other than national identity card or national identity card number. “The concerned banks and financial institutions will have to update the details of the national identity card within 35 days of the account holder’s return to Nepal,” reads the notice.
Similarly, disabled and helpless citizens who are unable to take care of themselves can open bank accounts and transact even by attaching necessary documents other than national identity card or national identity card number. “Certified statements will increase transparency between banks and customers,” the NRB said.
