Kathmandu. The US has imposed sanctions on a Chinese oil refinery, increasing pressure on Iran. This Chinese refinery was buying Iranian oil worth about $ 500 million from ships linked to the Houthis.
The US Treasury Department announced the sanctions on the oil refinery. China has strongly criticized the US sanctions. China has claimed that the US has disrupted normal trade between China and Iran.
This US move clearly shows that the global energy market is intricately linked to geopolitical conflicts.
US President Donald Trump has resumed his strategy of maximum pressure on Iran. For this, the US has imposed sanctions on many people and entities in Iran. This includes Iran’s energy minister.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant has claimed that Chinese refiners buying Iranian oil is an economic lifeline for the Iranian regime. “This regime is the world’s biggest supporter of terrorism,” he said.
State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said the sanctions were imposed as part of President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign. “The goal is to reduce Iran’s oil exports to zero,” she said.
