Kathmandu. The U.S. State Department says it is reopening the visa application process for international students who have been suspended.
The department has also said that the social media accounts of students applying for visas will also be checked. For this, all applicants will be instructed to keep the privacy settings of their social media profiles ‘public’.
“We use all the information available at our visa screening,” the State Department said in a statement. They can identify applicants who may not be approved to enter the United States, especially those who may pose a threat to national security. ’
“Under the new guidelines, detailed and thorough investigation will be carried out, including the online presence of applicants,” the department said. ’
U.S. embassies and consulates abroad will soon resume scheduling these visa applications.
Earlier, President Donald Trump ordered his embassies around the world to stop appointments for student visas. The Trump administration said it was working on a plan to thoroughly investigate applicants’ social media accounts. – Agency
