Kathmandu. A US federal court has stayed President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs. The decision is considered a major setback for an important part of Trump’s economic policy.
The International Trade Court ruled that emergency law enforced by the White House does not give the president unilateral powers to impose taxes in almost every country. A Manhattan court has ruled that the U.S. Constitution gives Congress special rights to do business with other countries and the president’s responsibility to protect the economy cannot encroach upon it.
After the Trump administration returned to the White House, the court also banned separate taxes imposed on China, Mexico and Canada. Within minutes, the Trump administration filed an appeal against this court’s decision. – Agency
