Kathmandu. The UK has tightened visa rules and made it mandatory for those entering the country to have A-level English proficiency.
The British government will soon implement strict new rules. Some migrants will need to gain proficiency in A-level (higher secondary) English to enter the UK. The changes will take effect on January 8, 2026. This will affect some graduate applicants and those applying for “skilled worker” or “scale-up” visas.
The government said the new rules were part of a wider plan to reduce migration to the UK as outlined in a white paper released in May. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said, “If you come to this country, you should learn our language and contribute to society. ’
“This country has always welcomed those who come here to contribute. But it is unacceptable for immigrants to come here without learning our language and be unable to contribute to our national life. ’
