Two-wheeler insurance for heavy vehicles, Rs. Rs 80 crore duped, 25,000 victims

Kathmandu. Ghaziabad: A crime has been unearthed from Ghaziabad, which busted a huge fraud racket going on across India. This fraud has been done in the name of vehicle insurance. More than 25,000 people have suffered from this fraud.

Ghaziabad Cyber Police on Sunday arrested two key conspirators of a criminal organised gang, bringing to light an insurance fraud. Only 128 people from Ghaziabad have been victimised by this gang and its financial impact is more than Rs 50 crore (Rs 80 crore).

The arrestees have been identified as 51-year-old Sartaj of Meerut and 38-year-old Deepak Thakur of Kavinagar in Ghaziabad. Sartaj has a BCom degree and Thakur has a BA degree. Both were working as licensed agents at the RTO office in Ghaziabad. A case has been registered against the duo at cyber police station in connection with the fraud in Bobby.

ADCP Crime and Cyber Piyush Kumar Singh said the gang targeted the owners of old commercial vehicles and lorries. Earlier, the accused used to charge full premium for heavy vehicles, which ranges from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000. However, the application for insurance policy was manipulated only for two-wheelers. Its price is only about Rs 1,500. The rest of the money was grabbed by the gang.

Police have recovered 84 fake third-party insurance policies from the mobile phones of the accused. It was created in the name of many companies including ICICI Lombard General Insurance, Magma HDI, Chola MS, Bajaj Allianz, Tata AIG, National Insurance, Sriram General Insurance, HDFC Ergo, Royal Sundaram and SBI General Insurance. Police have contacted the companies and are investigating the matter. – Agency
