Kathmandu. In China, 2 people, including a son, have been sentenced to death for killing his mother in the greed of getting insurance money.
A 23-year-old man in China has been sentenced to death for faking a road accident where his mother, surnamed Zhu, died, the South China Morning Post reported. The purpose was to get his insurance money. It is estimated that this is equivalent to about 45,000 Americans.
The young man named Lu had planned it with his friends Yang and Cheng. The son asked his mother, named Xu, to stand on the side of the village road. Luca was then hit by a car driven by his friends.
Three people were arrested after police found that their statements were inconsistent. The court found Lu and Yang guilty and sentenced them to death. Cheng was sentenced to seven years in prison for aiding and abetting the crime.
The verdict was handed down by the Taizhou Intermediate People’s Court in eastern Zhejiang province. However, it has only recently been made public.
Zhu died in a road accident in April 2023. Lu and his friends then spent $45,000 on luxury goods from an insurance company. They made this plan because they thought it would be easier to get insurance money.
Lu and his friends initially planned to compensate Zhu for his injuries by stabbing Su in the eye. However, that plan failed, and they stabbed Lu’s father in the eye with a bamboo stick to claim compensation for $180.
Reports indicate that Yang faked the car accident to Lu to kill his grandfather. However, Lu refused. Because he was raised by his grandfather.
“Yang told me that our family’s life would be much better if we killed our mother and got insurance compensation,” Lu told police. So I agreed to kill my mother. ’
The case highlights growing concerns about insurance scams in China.
