Tourism Board unveils Rs 1.5 billion budget

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has unveiled a budget of Rs 1.59 billion, taking strategic steps to protect the country’s tourism industry from climate risks. FY 2082. The budget for FY83 has made disaster preparedness a top priority for the expenditure.

This is the country’s largest single-year investment in Nepal’s post-pandemic tourism revival.

In view of Nepal’s high vulnerability to floods, landslides and other natural disasters, the Tourism Board has allocated a significant amount for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). To ensure the safety of tourists, the following main actions have been prioritized:

Preparedness System: Establish early warning system in major tourist areas.

Infrastructure Improvement: Construction of safe rescue routes and dams along the river to upgrade critical infrastructure.

Training and Equipment: Provide training to local communities and tourism workers in disaster management and response, as well as emergency equipment and equipment needed for rapid response.

Security Focused Tourism Development

The board is investing in destination development to restore tourist confidence and diversify tourism.

Quality Improvement: Improving the quality of services to tourist accommodation, trekking routes and local transportation.
