Kathmandu. The Festival of Hartalika Teej, which is celebrated on the day of Bhadra Shukla Tritiya, is being celebrated today by worshiping Devadi Dev Mahadev.
In satyayug, Himalaya’s daughter Parvati had received the boon of getting Shri Mahadev husband by doing penance by staying in Gaurighat. But when father Himalaya tried to marry Vishnu against Parvati’s wishes, she told her friend about her problems.
In this way, it is believed that the practice of taking the fast of Hartalika Teej started from the day of Bhadra Shukla Tritiya, the day when Parvati was abducted by her friends.
‘Harit’ and ‘Aalika’ are the two words of Sanskrit language to form the word ‘Haritalika’. In the context of Hartalika Teej, the word ‘Green’ means snatched and the word ‘Aalika’ means friend.
In satyayug, women fast on this day in the belief that their wishes will be fulfilled by fasting on this day as Parvati has got Shri Mahadev Swami. But it is not written in the scriptures that all women should fast.
