Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has been re-elected with a promise to make his country great again. He also imposed heavy tariffs in various countries. Despite this, the world’s largest economy is struggling on many fronts.
This year, the number of companies filing for bankruptcy in the U.S. has reached a 15-year high. So far, more than 700 large companies and more than 2,000 small companies have filed for bankruptcy.
Last year, 687 large companies in the US filed for bankruptcy. By November this year, the number had reached 717.
This is the third year in a row that the number of companies filing for bankruptcy in the US has increased. This number is up 93% compared to 2022. In November, 62 large companies filed for bankruptcy. It was 68 in October and 66 in September. This year, the number is 30 percent higher than the annual average from 2011 to 2024.
The number of bankrupt companies in the United States indicates that the country is in the grip of a recession. The bankruptcy rate of small companies has increased by 83 percent compared to last year. So far this year, 2,221 companies have applied for bankruptcy under Subchapter 5. Higher borrowing costs, caution in consumer spending and economic uncertainty have impacted earnings for smaller companies. America’s small companies are struggling.
