Kathmandu. The Beaver Super Moon, the biggest moon of 2025, will be visible on November 5.
Since the moon is at its closest point to the Earth (perigee), it will appear up to 30% brighter and larger than normal. This astronomical event will be a spectacular sight for sky viewers around the world including Nepal.
The best time for the residents of Nepal to see this unique sight will be after sunset. The moon will rise from Kathmandu at 7:04 pm local time. Spectators are encouraged to look towards the eastern horizon. Although binoculars or telescopes are ideal for viewing this huge golden moon, it can be seen clearly with the naked eye due to its brightness.
A ‘supermoon’ refers to the moon’s elliptical orbit and its proximity to the Earth. Its increased brightness can also affect the tides.
The name “Beaver Moon” is associated with the traditional Native American and European folklore of the month of November. During this time, beavers prepare for winter.
Along with the supermoon, the constellations Jupiter, Pleiades and Orion will also appear bright at night. Which will increase the magnificence of the night sky.
This rare event provides an excellent opportunity to increase public interest in astronomy and natural sciences in Nepal.
