Kathmandu. Kathmandu: A month ago, the teachers’ agitation from Maitighar to New Baneshwor area of Kathmandu has been suspended since Wednesday evening. The protest between the government and the agitating teachers has been called off by July 15 to promulgate the School Education Act 2082 BS.
The government and the ruling parties have pledged to promulgate the New School Education Act 2082 by July 15 to address the demands of the teachers’ movement. Fnj President Laxmi Kishor Subedi said a nine-point agreement has been reached between the teachers’ federation and the government.
Speaking at a press conference after the agreement, Federation of Nepal Teachers’ Federation President Laxmi Kishor Subedi said the agreement was signed as a written commitment had been received to promulgate the Act by July 15. He claimed that the agitation was called off on the basis of request and consensus from the political parties as the School Education Act was not in a position to be promulgated immediately.
Education Committee President Ammar Bahadur Thapa, NC Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire and CPN(UML) Chief Whip Mahesh Bartola have pledged their support in framing the act.
