Suspended NEA chairman Ojha files writ petition in Supreme Court

Kathmandu. Nepal Insurance Authority (INSURANCE) Chairman Sharad Ojha has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the government for forming an inquiry committee questioning the conduct, efficiency and responsibilities of the post.

Ojha has filed a joint writ against the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar, the Ministry of Finance and the Investigation Committee. He has also made chairman of the inquiry committee Krishna Giri and members Jeevan Prakash Sitaula and Kapil Dev Oli as defendants.

Ojha had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on July 12, demanding the cancellation of the suspension along with the scrapping of the inquiry committee.

Supreme Court Judge Aziz Mushalman issued a show-cause order against the Government of Nepal and other defendants on Friday. Now the matter has been re-examined on Monday.

A complaint has been filed with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and a writ petition has been filed against Ojha in the Supreme Court. The case against him has been scheduled to be heard by a full bench of the Supreme Court for the month of November.

Ojha was suspended after a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on July 12 formed an inquiry committee to investigate against him in accordance with Sub-section 3 of Section 12 of the Insurance Act, 2079 BS.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on February 17, 2018, had appointed Ojha to the post of chairman based on the recommendations of the recommendation committee including Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel.
