Suggestion to increase health insurance premium and link it to tax net

Kathmandu. The Economic Reform Suggestion Commission formed by the government has suggested to increase the premium of health insurance.

This suggestion has been made in the final report submitted by the Commission to Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel. The Commission has suggested to increase the premium amount of health insurance from Rs. 3500 to Rs. 5000) and manage the amount collected in such a way that it gives high returns.

It has also been suggested to pay the liability of health insurance so far and to address the increasing burden of health insurance, health tax should be imposed on tobacco, cigarettes and alcohol that harm health and deposit it in the insurance fund.

Similarly, it would be better to implement repeated and scattered health insurance services through a one-door system. “It is necessary to link health insurance with taxes,” the commission’s report said, adding, “Those with less income than the minimum income limit do not have to pay insurance premium, but they have to pay social security tax and pay both premium and tax as they are above the limit. ’
