Kathmandu. Singapore’s low-cost price-based airline Jetstar Asia (3K) will suspend all flights from July 31. The company, which has been providing flights at a cheaper price than other airlines, is on the verge of closure as it is unable to bear the operating expenses.

The airline, which has been in operation since 2004, will be closed forever after completing a two-decade journey. This decision of Jet Star will only affect the service of Jet Star Asia, which operates flights based in Singapore. JetStar Airways (JQ) flights between Australia and Southeast Asia and Jet Star Japan (GK) and other Jet Star brands will continue to operate on a regular basis.

Jet Star Asia has faced growing challenges in recent years, including increasing suppliers and airport costs, as well as growing competition from other budget carriers in the region. Despite efforts to manage these pressures, the airline said it would no longer be able to afford affordable fares in a sustainable manner. “This is incredibly difficult news,” the airline said in a statement, promising to provide support and options to passengers affected by flight shutdowns. ’

The flights will continue till the last day of operation on July 31. However, the schedule will be gradually reduced before closing. If the flight is before July 31 and passengers have not been informed about any changes, then the journey will be as per the flight schedule.

If contacted about the change in schedule, the airline will offer re-booking or return as per the requirement. If the flight is after July 31, the entire ticket amount will be refunded, Jet Star said in a statement.

Jet Star Asia has been operating flights from Singapore to cities in Southeast Asia, South Asia, East Asia and Australia, including Bangkok, Manila, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Denpassor. The departure marks the end of an era for one of Southeast Asia’s notable budget carriers.

Jet Star Asia once played a major role in expanding affordable travel options in the region, especially for leisure travelers and foreign workers.

Singapore’s aviation sector has recently seen other airlines that sell air tickets at cheap prices competing with Jetstar. The company is finally on the verge of closure due to mounting losses amid intense competition.
