Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has said that India is now “completely curtailing” its oil purchases from Russia. Trump made the claim during his visit to Malaysia.
Trump has already imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on India for oil purchases from Russia. Now India is facing a total of 50 percent US tariffs.
President Trump is on a week-long trip to Asia. During his visit, he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “I can talk to China about buying Russian oil.” “China is significantly reducing purchases of Russian oil, and India is reducing it completely,” he said. ’
Earlier, the US President had said that he wanted China’s help in negotiating a deal with Russia to end the war in Ukraine. China is Russia’s biggest ally and has been a key backer for Russia since Western sanctions over the Ukraine war.
