Kathmandu. The Health Insurance Board has expressed concern that the liability to pay for the health insurance program will reach 24 billion rupees by the end of the current fiscal year 2081.82. The board has been unable to pay the dues of health institutions for a long time.
The board has informed about its financial situation, the status of the insurance program, challenges and future strategies through a 45-point white paper. According to the board, in the current situation, 16.45 billion rupees are yet to be reimbursed to health institutions for insurance. According to the board, despite having a liability of more than 16 billion rupees, the board had only 1 billion rupees left in the fund by mid-Falgun.
The board has stated that the gap between income and expenditure is continuously widening. The board has approved a total budget of Rs 26.59 billion for the current fiscal year 2081.82, but only one-third of the budget will be received, according to the white paper released by the board.
According to the board, the amount to be reimbursed to the service providers has been increasing at a rate of about two billion rupees per month.
Every year, the fund has to bear only Rs 23.4 million for house rent. The board’s executive director, Dr. Raghuraj Kafle, said that the liability for employee salaries and allowances and registration support incentives is also continuously increasing. As of the last audit period of the board’s fiscal year 2080.081, the board has a deficit of Rs 2.85 billion.24 million. The white paper states that it is challenging to see 75 percent of the board’s annual internal revenue being wasted.
