Role of economic journalists important in financial sector: Deputy Governor Mishra

Kathmandu. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Deputy Governor Bam Bahadur Mishra has said that the role of economic journalists would be important in the development of the economic and financial sector. He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a two-day ‘Advanced Banking Training for Economic Journalists’ programme organized by Nepal Economic Journalists Association in Collaboration with Nabil Bank in Kathmandu on Friday.

Similarly, he said that the need of the hour is accurate information. He said that the economic and financial sector is sensitive and news should be written on the basis of correct information.

“The challenge now is to disseminate the right information without spreading wrong information in the society,” he said. He suggested that news should be written based on factual information.

Stating that the banking sector is a sensitive sector, he urged the journalists to disseminate only the right information. He said that the role of the financial sector in the economy is important, while the information affecting this sector will have a negative impact on the entire economy.

He said that there is a difference in economic journalism now. Such training programs have helped increase the capacity of economic journalists. It has started making a difference in economic journalism,” he said, adding, “However, economic journalists need to be skilled on a regular basis.” New data is coming in. Technology is also coming new. For this, the capacity of journalists needs to be increased on a regular basis. ’

He said that some things are still not in the news. “It is reported that the Rastra Bank will pull deposits worth Rs 90 billion. During the bid, the Rastra Bank draws deposits of only Rs 70 billion. However, there is no update,” he said, adding, “This is just an example.” There is no news of the data on other issues brought by the Rastra Bank. Stating that such training programmes should be organized regularly, he said the Rastra Bank was also ready to cooperate in this regard.
