Kathmandu. Palpa: Ranimahal of Palpa is set to be restored to its original condition. A meeting of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission, people’s representatives of Palpa district, Director General of Department of Archaeology, Chief District Officer of Palpa district, engineers, among others, decided to preserve the Ranimahal built by Khadga Shumsher.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel said Ranimahal is one of the rare places and directed the Department of Archaeology to collect materials related to the old style and shape, prepare a master plan and prepare an implementation method accordingly. He stressed the need to carry forward the river and landslide management and other works of construction with special attention to the historical and archaeological importance.
Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission Prof Dr Shivaraj Adhikari stressed the need of protecting Ranimahal and its surrounding areas with a long-term systematic plan.
Thakur Gaire, a member of the House of Representatives, said special attention should be paid to protect the Kaligandaki river from eroding the foundation of Ranimahal.
Lawmaker Narayan Acharya stressed the need for coordination among the federal, provincial and local levels to manage Ranimahal.
Chief District Officer Toy Narayan Subedi said the government would move ahead in coordination with all sectors for the conservation of Ranimahal.
Director General of the Department of Archaeology, Saubhagya Pradhananga, said that the Department of Archaeology could reconstruct Ranimahal by preserving its archaeological and historical significance.
Chief of the Budget Division of the Ministry of Finance, Sri Krishna Nepal, said that there would be no shortage of resources for the conservation of Ranimahal.
Kalpana Adhikari, project manager of Kaligandaki Corridor, said that the initial study has shown the need to retrofit ranimahal, protect it from river erosion, manage landslides, construct bridges and manage parking areas.
During the Rana period, Khadga Shamsher built Rani Mahal in memory of Rani Tej Kumari Devi.
