Public Holidays: Dhanya Purnima, Udhauli and Yomari Purnima being observed today

Kathmandu. Dhanya Purnima, Udhauli and Yomari Purnima are being celebrated today on the day of Margashirsha Shukla Purnima. Paddy is being worshipped and donated on the occasion of Dhanya Purnima today. On this occasion, banks, insurance companies, stock markets and government offices will also be closed.

On the occasion of Shukla Purnima, there is a tradition of worshipping the deities like paddy, Ganesh, family deity, Gaidu deity, Goth Devta, Maharudra, Mahalaxmi and other deities.

Yomari Purnima is also known as Yomari Punhi. This festival, which is celebrated as the biggest festival of the Newar community, is also considered as a juicy festival of food. Yomari is made from rice flour, knives and sesame seeds.

The women of the house are busy making yomari since early this morning. It is customary to cook Yomari by smearing it in the bath house. In Yomari, a ball is made of milk, a knife and sesame seeds.

The Newar community also celebrates Yomari Purnima by worshiping at the Bhakari or Kothi where the paddy is kept. It is also customary to send a gift from the parents to their house as Yomari Sagun filled with sesame seeds and knives, wishing for the complete health of the child in the womb during the pregnancy.

Chasuwa of Yakkha, Folsyadar of Sunuwar, Udhauli Sakela of Rai and Chasok of Limbus are being celebrated with great fanfare and fanfare. On the first day of the festival, the Limbus celebrated the Chasok Tangnam festival and today everyone jointly celebrates the Udhauli Sakela or Kirat festival.

The day when the Kirat community offers their crops to their deities, asks for permission to eat and remembers their ancestors is called Yakkha Chasuwa, Sunuwar calls it Folsyadar, Rai calls Udhauli Sakela and Limbu people call it Chasok Tangnam. At the time of planting crops, it is customary to celebrate the festival of Ubhauli or Yawa in the Kirat community.

Kirat men and women dressed in ethnic costumes reach the festival site from early morning to celebrate the festival by dancing to the rhythm of Chyabrung music. Although the festival and customs are the same, it is customary to call the festival according to their own language.
