Kathmandu. The Nepal Insurance Authority has not implemented the directive issued by the Nepal Insurance Authority to mandatorily include the details of the national identity card of the customer or insured in the course of insurance transactions.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had published a notice in Nepal Gazette Part 5 on Ashad 10 making the national identity card mandatory in the provision of banking and financial services from Magh 1. Based on this notice, the authority had also directed all licensed insurers to make the national identity card mandatory in insurance transactions, intermediary registration, renewal, and claim payment. The authority also directed to accept national identity cards instead of citizenship certificates as personal identification documents.

Since customers spontaneously go to banks and financial institutions for services, they seem willing to follow the rules there or are forced to do so out of fear of being deprived of facilities. However, since most do not take out life insurance spontaneously, there is a tendency for customers to be reluctant to complete the identification process, present a national identity card, or undergo a detailed health examination for life insurance with a large sum insured.
