Kathmandu. President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has said that the attitude towards the private sector needs to be changed. Welcoming the newly elected executive committee of the Society of Economic Journalists (EJJ) to the FNCCI on Tuesday, Dhakal said that it was a serious issue that the private sector has been targeted in every movement despite the private sector being the largest employer.
Stating that he felt that the importance of the private sector was not understood due to the attack on the private sector during the agitation, he urged the media to make a perspective on such issues. The private sector is the backbone of the country’s economy and contributes 81 per cent to the economy and 86 per cent to employment.
Dhakal said that according to the data and information available so far, the private sector has suffered a loss of around Rs 80 billion due to the vandalism and arson that took place during the Genji movement. “We have come to this situation after facing various political and natural disasters at different times. After the Genji agitation on September 23 and 24, there has been a lot of damage to government and private property. We have a challenge to rise above this situation. ” he said.
He, however, said that the incumbent government has boosted the morale of the private sector by announcing relief packages in a short span of time as per the opinion of the private sector.
Stating that fact-based, investigative and responsible journalism would enhance the credibility of private sector as well as create pressure for policy-level reforms, he expressed the view that FNJ was always positive for cooperation with SEJON.
FCANC senior vice-president Anjan Shrestha said the recent incident has created a feeling of insecurity among the industrialists and businessmen. He said that the recent incidents in Nepal have disseminated a negative message about Nepal in the international level and it would affect employment.
FNCCI Vice-President Hemraj Dhakal underscored the need of creating a dialogue mechanism between the private sector and the government for restoring the economy and maintaining good governance.
Treasurer of FNCCI Bharat Raj Acharya stressed the need for the government to carry out security, coordination and collaboration with the private sector for the reconstruction, reconstruction and revival of Nepal’s economy.
Chairman of SEJON Bhagwat Bhattarai said that SEJON has always been advocating for open economy, entrepreneurship and employment through economic journalism. Stating that the FNCCI and SEJON have been collaborating for a long time, he stressed on the continuity of this collaboration in the days ahead.
The FNCCI has also stressed the need to create an environment conducive for economic development, employment generation and encouraging innovation in the changing political context.
