Kathmandu. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is on an official visit to Thailand, met with Thai businessmen in Bangkok today.
In the meeting, which was also attended by a Nepali business delegation, Prime Minister Oli urged Thai businessmen to invest in Nepal, stating that Nepal is a fertile land for investment. He said that many laws necessary for creating an investment-friendly environment in Nepal have been amended and revised for Thai businessmen, and the government will guarantee investment security.
Prime Minister Oli said that investment in Nepal can be made by understanding the private sector’s views on investment opportunities and prospects in Nepal and collaborating with the private sector.
Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Chandra Prasad Dhakal, who was also part of the delegation, said that an investment-friendly environment has been created in Nepal by reforming laws, that foreign exchange reserves are good, and that there is a comfortable environment for investment. He said that Thai businessmen can benefit from that environment when investing in Nepal as there are large neighboring countries like India and China for the post-production market. He informed that there is potential in tourism, energy, agriculture, information technology, and construction industries in Nepal. ‘Nepal is a country with ample potential for investment. The recent policy reforms made by the government are likely to attract foreign investment, he said. “On behalf of the private sector, I also urge Thai businessmen to invest.”
A Nepali delegation led by Prime Minister Oli is in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, from Chaitra 19 to 23 to pay an official visit to Thailand and participate in the sixth BIMSTEC summit. Nepal and Thailand signed eight agreements on Wednesday alone, including two government and six non-government agreements.
