Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel held discussions with the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI). Newly elected President birendra Raj Pandey led the office-bearers of the Confederation held a meeting at the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday.
Newly elected President of the Confederation Pandey said that the private sector is expecting the economy to improve as the government has brought the budget to encourage production and the monetary policy has come to support the budget. He said that the confederation has set a target of achieving $100 billion in size of the country’s economy and double-digit economic growth in the next decade and preliminary studies have shown that eight sectors should be kept at the center for this.
He also informed that a detailed study has been started on how to achieve a $100 billion economy and double-digit economic growth. Chairman Pandey urged the government to implement the report of the High Level Economic Reform Suggestion Commission, to be strict to control theft and import and to bring an act to collect credit.
On the occasion, Finance Minister Poudel congratulated the newly elected committee and said that the confederation has taken the issues raised seriously. He said that the government has adopted the report of the High Level Economic Reform Suggestion Commission and has already taken it to the implementation process. He said that the suggestions to be forwarded in a phased manner would be forwarded accordingly. Stating that the biggest impact due to illegal trade has been on the government’s revenue, he said that the border areas should be tightened. Minister Poudel also urged to play a constructive role in the implementation of the budget for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS.
