Kathmandu. The management committee of Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC) demanding a legal explanation regarding the bonus to be given to its employees.
The management committee of NEPSE filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on Tuesday. The NEPSE Board of Directors had authorized the management committee to file the writ. The hearing has been scheduled for today. The government of Nepal and the Ministry of Finance have been named as defendants in the petition.
For the past few years, there has been a dispute in NEPSE regarding the bonus to be given to the employees. The employees have been demanding 5 percent bonus as per the law. However, the Ministry of Finance has been sending a letter to the NEPSE Board of Directors to give only 1 percent. If the bonus details are more than 1 percent, then the government will have to pay the same as the rest of the government.
Chudamani Chapagain, CEO of NEPSE, said that the Supreme Court will now give legal interpretation on the issue of bonus to the employees. “Hopefully, the bonus dispute will be resolved after that. ’
Earlier, the employees had filed a case at the Labour Office and the Labour Court, naming NEPSE Board of Directors as the defendant. However, the Labor Office and the Labor Court sometimes ruled in favor of the employees and sometimes in favor of the Ministry of Finance.
