Nepalis living abroad can now open bank accounts in Nepal without needing a national ID card

Kathmandu. Nepal Rastra Bank has made it easier for Nepalis living abroad to open bank accounts in Nepal. The central bank has amended the integrated directive issued in the name of banks and financial institutions to make it easier for Nepalis living abroad to open bank accounts in Nepal.

Currently, from 2081 Magh 1, banks and financial institutions have to verify the details of the national identity card or national identity card number based on access to the details in the electronic records of the national identity card and make arrangements to open accounts on the basis of the national identity card or national identity card number.

Amending the integrated directive, the Rastra Bank has made arrangements for Nepali citizens living abroad to open a bank account in Nepal online by taking other necessary documents other than the national identity card or national identity card number. In relation to the account opened in this way, the concerned bank will have to update the details of the national identity card within 35 days of the account holder’s return to Nepal.

In addition, the Rastra Bank has amended the integrated directive to allow disabled, helpless citizens who are unable to take care of themselves to open a bank account and conduct transactions by attaching other necessary documents other than the national identity card or national identity card number.
