Nepal Insurance Authority holds interaction with Madhes province government

Kathmandu. Birgunj: Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) has organized an interaction and discussion programme on contemporary issues related to insurance with madhes state government in Birgunj today. Chief Guest of the program, Chief Minister of Madhes Province Satish Kumar Singh pointed out the need for insurance companies to give up the tendency of insisting on selling insurance policies and then not paying attention to it.

Chief Minister Singh urged the insurance companies to make arrangements to spend the amount spent on corporate social responsibility (CSR) only after informing the state government.

Stating that there have been complaints that insurance companies have been harassing insurance claims due to non-availability of documents at the time of payment of insurance claims, he said special attention should be paid to make claim payment simple and easy.

Chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority Sharad Ojha said that the directive is being revised to make arrangements for insurance companies to spend the amount of corporate social responsibility on the basis of provincial balance.

Chairman Ojha said necessary decisions would be taken in coordination with the state government after compiling the necessary data regarding wildlife insurance.

Chairman Ojha urged the NRA to set up an insurance unit under any structure of the state government to coordinate the insurance related works and exchange information.

Officiating Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population of Madhes Province, Rajesh Kumar Mishra, said that the state government was ready to move ahead in a planned manner in coordination with the Nepal Insurance Authority for the development and expansion of insurance in the province.

On the occasion, Director of Nepal Insurance Authority Kundan Sapkota gave a presentation on the current situation of the insurance market, challenges and solutions related to insurance in Madhes province and the role of the state government in the development and expansion of insurance.

In the program, the participants said that there should be coordination and collaboration among the concerned agencies for the development of the insurance sector, insurance companies should delegate the rights including claim payment to the state offices, arrangements should be made to pay claims from the local level and spend not only on market promotion but also for the training of employees, arrangements should be made to get the claim money at the state level by making arrangements for foreign employment insurance related work in coordination with the State Labor Ministry. He was of the view that the insurance policy should be sold keeping in mind the income of the person and the insurance policy should be brought in a way to protect the damage caused by the flood.

Deputy Director of Nepal Insurance Authority Punam Gyawali Shrestha delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.

Officials of various ministries of Madhes province, representatives of various bodies, employees of Madhes province office of Nepal Insurance Authority and chiefs of state offices of insurance companies were present on the occasion.
